When my niece got married in Florida, I had two options: crash on a couch in a packed house, or pitch a tent in the forest behind my sister’s place. Guess which one I chose?

Now, keep in mind, Florida in summer is like living inside a microwave. But I didn’t care. I’m an old-school Good Ol’ Boy. I like fresh air, a little peace, and saving a few bucks.

Every morning I woke up to birdsong and dew on the tent. It was beautiful. The house was full of people and noise. But outside? It was my own little retreat. The only downside? My snoring. I’m famous for it. If bears had ears, they probably moved out.

That week reminded me of the simplicity of life. No room service, no AC — just nature, family, and a whole lot of stories shared under the stars. I wouldn’t trade it for a hotel suite.
